UIMLA is pleased to announce a new partnership with MountainSafety.info. The other associative members of MountainSafety.info are the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations (IFMGA) and the scientific member SLF/WSL Swiss Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research. The NATO Centre of Excellence of Mountain Warfare is an institutional affiliate. The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) are also in collaboration with MountainSafety.info.
The project was initiated by Manuel Genswein and has evolved together with the “Best Practice in Avalanche Rescue” pioneer workgroup.
On January 8th 2021 UIMLA and MountainSafety.info held two webinars for trainers, assessors and other technical resources in UIMLA member associations to start cascading the MountainSafety.info resources to members.
On January 22nd 2021 UIMLA and MountainSafety.info held another webinar, attended by over 450 International Mountain Leaders from many countries, to introduce the project and share some best practice on avalanche rescue techniques.
UIMLA will draw on the good practice developed by MountainSafety.info and make it available to our 21 full member associations. Our 6 aspirant associations will benefit greatly from this partnership as they develop their training programs.
UIMLA will collaborate through MountainSafety.info on the development of further standards and educational resources across other areas of mountain safety.
UIMLA members should contact their national association for more details of this partnership.
