The Bex – UIMLA Board is the body that directs and implements all decisions taken by UIMLA members (25 full member countries & 5 aspirant countries) between international general assemblies held annually.
At the last General Assembly held in Germany in autumn 2024, a new Board was elected, partly made up of members of the old Board, to which new people joined:
President: Ian Spare (UK), reconfirmed
Vice-president: Marian Anghel (Romania), reappointed
Secretary General: Danjiela Bucić (Croatia)
Head of Technical Committee: Bill Bailey (Czech Republic), reappointed
Treasurer: Esther Murciano (Spain)
Last weekend, the first physical meeting of the new Board took place in Madrid, Spain in addition to the online discussions. The last physical Board meeting took place in Prague two years ago, this long gap between meetings being part of the UIMLA Sustainability Policy – to reduce unnecessary travels and the carbon footprint.
On this occasion, on the agenda for discussion were various topics such as:
- the budget and financial situation for the new year,
- partnerships with other organizations in the mountain tourism and outdoor field,
- the plan of activities for the following years
- and last but not least, the organization of the 2024 UIMLA General Assembly this November, on which occasion the UIMLA celebrates 20 years since its establishment in France with the actual name.
The results of the BEx discussions in Madrid will be seen throughout the year, to the benefit and joy of UIMLA member associations and individual mountain leaders around the world.
