UIMLA joins the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism)

The Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA) is proud to announce its official acceptance as an Affiliated Member of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism). The decision was formally approved during the 124th Session of the UN Tourism Executive Council, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 8 November 2025.

Through this affiliation, UIMLA gains formal recognition within the United Nations system as a key international actor in the field of mountain and adventure tourism.

Becoming part of the UN Tourism network will allow UIMLA to access valuable research, data, and collaborative opportunities for developing responsible mountain tourism.

Also, UIMLA can contribute to global tourism policies and sustainability initiatives, building strategic partnerships with public and private stakeholders.

One of the most important aspects for our members, this afilliation will consolidate the professional recognition of International Mountain Leaders (IMLs) worldwide.

Through this engagement, UIMLA seeks to strengthen cooperation on key themes such as sustainable mountain tourism development, education and professional training, environmental protection, and community benefit.

It also highlights the role of IMLs as professionals contributing to the responsible enjoyment of mountain areas and supporting local economies.

”UN Tourism considers the private sector as an important partner in fulfilling its general mandate for the
promotion of sustainable tourism development and the achievement of the 2030 Agenda.

Within this context, we recognize the great potential of the collaboration with your entity to contribute towards the
creation of a more ethical and responsible tourism sector, for the benefit of the international community.
The Organization is delighted that your entity has decided to join…”
